I got the music in me

I have noticed over the years that music is the best motivator for me. If I want to get something accomplished I turn on music. House need cleaned...music, need to exercise...turn on music (note to self...should try this again soon). When I was in school and needed to study I had to have loud music. When I go to church I love the music.
Today when I needed to clean house I turned on the tv to the music only stations. I decided to walk down memory lane and listen to the 80's station. I just have one thing to say about that....what in the heck were we thinking? Don't get me wrong, I love 80's rock music. I never listened to country music, could not stand it until the boy bands and Brittany started dominating the radio and I switched to country. I switch back and forth daily but mostly I stick with country. My big complaint about the music I listened to in the 80's is the fact that most of it was...umm....not the nicest music. The songs I listened to today within an hour were 1. Darling Nikki , 2. Nasty girl, 3. Like a virgin. When I look back I see how that music might have had something to do with how some of my friends acted. Not me.....no never...just some friends. The 80's seemed to be a fun time where SOME OF MY FRIENDS may or may not have been doing some things that we now hope our children are smart enough not to do. While superhubby and I were dating I fell in love with the song "Shining star." When ever that song came on the radio I would melt. That song made me think thoughts very unbecoming for a young girl. SH ran right out and bought that tape so it would be on every time I got in his truck. He was slick like that. I never hear that song anymore but just humming the tune makes me wish SH was home. Just give me a second I need to take a deep breath....
I think my point in this was the fact that the things my friends did in the 80's were probably at least partly due to the music we listened to. I had great parents but they were not able to talk about anything uncomfortable. Words I never heard from my parents mouth 1. sex 2. any word for a body part 3. love 4. Any word to do with relationships. My parents never ever ever said anything to me like "don't drink", or " no sex." I will say again I have great parents, they just were not comfortable with anything personal. I can honestly say I have never heard my parents say "I love you" to each other or anyone else and I have never ever seen them kiss or hug. My parents have a great relationship but not in public. I have taken a different road with my own children. I am not going to kid myself and say they tell me everything because that would not be right, but we do talk about things...body parts, sex, pregnancy and relationships. I want my children to be able to be more open about things than I was. I think its working, DD had a friend over the other day and was changing clothes. The phone rang and she came running out of her room in her underwear and a bra yelling "go ahead and look at these amazing boobs, you know you want to."

That last line was too funny! I have to agree with you about the stuff we did and the 80's music being somewhat of an influence - I agree. I mostly listen to Country now - my kids listen to some Country - but not all the time.

Thanks for your continued prayers for our sweet baby - have a great weekend - Kellan

This amuses me for a number of reasons. 1) Our parents were very similar. 2) I, like you, did things a bit different & 3) That sounds like something my daughter would say, too.

Theresa will be 20 in May. So far she has only done 1 thing behind my back that she knew I would strongly disapprove of. She lasted exactly 1 day before she had to tell me.
